CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD
The permanent resident (PR) card is a wallet-sized, plastic status card that replaces the paper IMM 1000 Record of Landing document for travel purposes. On December 31, 2003, the
permanent resident card became the proof of status document required by permanent residents seeking to re-enter Canada on a commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus). Permanent
residents seeking to return to Canada who are without a permanent resident card may contact the nearest Canadian visa office to obtain a limited use travel document to re-enter Canada at
a cost of $50 for each one. The PR card increases Canada’s border security by improving the integrity of the immigration process. It also provides cardholders with secure, convenient
proof of their resident status when re-entering Canada. The card helps ensure that Canada has the tools it needs to protect against the fraudulent use of its immigration documents.
DEPARTURE TAXES
Some destinations charge a fee to all passengers when they are departing. This is called a departure tax and in most cases it is not paid in advance, but at the airport when checking in for
the return flight. Passengers will have to pay the following taxes in cash when leaving:
DEPARTURE TAXES ARE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING
Barbados $25 BBD Jamaica $28 USD Belize $35 USD Margarita Island $60 USD Brazil $36 USD Panama $20 USD Cayman Islands Not Confirmed Saint Kitts & Nevis $17 USD
Columbia $47 USD San Andres $31 USD Costa Rica $46 USD Trinidad & Tobago $100 TT(approx $20 CAD) Cuba $25 Conv Pesos Turks and Caicos $23 USD Dominican Republic $20
USD Venezuela $54 USD Haiti $30 USD Honduras $30 USD
CHILDREN TRAVELING WITH PARENTS
Children must be in possession of a birth certificate or passport when traveling with parents. The same rules that countries set for adults requiring passports apply for children (eg.
ANYONE traveling to Cuba needs a valid passport, regardless of age) If the child is traveling with only one parent, a letter is required giving the parent permission for the child to travel. If
the parents are divorced or separated then the letter must be notarized, unless the parent has sole custody and provides documentation proving so. The age at which a person is considered a
child varies from Country to Country. Please have the clients call the appropriate consulate if they are: • Under 18 and traveling without their parents • Traveling with someone who is not
the child’s parent (friend, uncle, brother etc…) • Over the age of 13 (as they may require photo ID)
CHILDREN TRAVELING ALONE
Children that are between the ages of 5 and 12 that are traveling without an adult are considered unaccompanied minors (UM). The parent(s) or guardian(s) must take the child to the
airport and must fill out an unaccompanied minor form at the airport for the applicable airline. There must also be a letter with details of the adult(s) meeting the child at the destination
airport. In the letter it must include the relationship to the child, full name, address and phone number (as shown on their ID). Please be advised that there CAN NOT be any deviation from
this form. The receiving adult’s photo ID must have the exact same spelling as the form filled out at the departing airport, for example the name William on the ID then this is what the
letter must state, not Bill or Billy etc… Once at the airport the parent(s) or guardian(s) CAN NOT leave the terminal until the flight has departed. The same is required on the return flight.
If the child’s parents are separated or divorced then permission (in the form of a notarized letter) is also required. For a list of accepted documents including requirements for passengers
who appear to be 12 - 17 yrs, and other information please reference http://PassengerProtect.gc.ca/identity.html
